Savennières: Château d'Epiré 'Le Parc' Sec 2021

This classic Savennières wine has a complex bouquet of wild flowers, sherry flora and chalk dust and a generous palate of ripe orchard fruit with subtle undertones of honey and minerals prior to a long, dry elegant finish.

This complex Chenin Blanc is the principal bottling of Château d'Epiré and a firm favourite of Team Yapp as it always performs well in blind tastings and can stand up to complex fish and poultry dishes accompanied by flavoursome sauces. In common with most Savennières it is slow to reveal its charms and requires some effort on the part of the imbiber. Tant mieux - a pleasure postponed is a pleasure enhanced!

Tasting Notes

This classic dry Savennières wine has diverse aromas of honeysuckle wild flowers and gun flint preceding a palate that develops in the glass. It is intentionally a tad oxidative (in a good way, not unlike a Manzanilla sherry) with stone fruit mineral and wild herb notes leading to a persistent ethereal dry finish. It gains a darker colour complexity and concentration with (up to 10 or more years) bottle age and every discerning cellar should have some.

Savennières: Château d'Epiré 'Le Parc' Sec - Yapp Brothers One Minute Review

Jason Yapp and Ruby Willis review the Savennières 'Le Parc' from Château d'Epiré - from the Loire, it is one of the oldest estates in the area. From Chenin Blanc, it should be drunk young but can age very well. Would match well with chicken or turkey, but also rich dishes such as pork with tarragon.
