Spring Selection Mixed Case Offer
Pearls from the Loire, Languedoc, Dordogne & Western Cape.
Rare white Chinon represents just 2% of the appellation and is made from Chenin blanc, the versatile 'couteau Suisse' grape variety from which many great Loire wines are produced, such as Vouvray, Savennières & Coteaux du Layon. This is a medium-bodied style that offers a counterpoint to the crisp, saline Picpoul de Pinet. You should know by now that the latter is a bracing aperitif from the slopes above the brackish Bassin de Thau outside Montpellier that should be consumed with a bucket of bivalves.
Our 100% Cabernet Franc, salmon-pink rosé hails from South Africa's Western Cape and would be a splendid match with mild Asian-spiced salads, sushi or crispy tofu with Szechuan pepper.
We are particularly tickled with our three reds, beginning with the delicious Château Fouquet from Saumur vineyards at Brezé. Like the rosé above, this vibrant red is pure Cabernet Franc and the back label now illustrates a holy trinity of healthy certification – organic, biodynamic and vegan!
The remaining two reds impressed our crack teams during recent buying trips and orders were placed on the spot. The red Bergerac is a juicy blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc – confit de canard or other Périgord poultry dishes would make perfect partners. Domaine Girard’s Burgundian-style Pinot Noir from the Languedoc hills owes its freshness to planting at 350m altitude, receiving cooling breezes from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean, making it ideal as an aperitif or a moreish partner to summer dishes.
