Rare white Chinon represents just 2% of the appellation and is made from Chenin blanc, the versatile 'couteau Suisse' grape variety from which many great Loire wines are produced, such as Vouvray, Savennières & Coteaux du Layon. This is a medium-bodied style that offers a counterpoint to the crisp, saline Picpoul de Pinet. You should know by now that the latter is a bracing aperitif from the slopes above the brackish Bassin de Thau outside Montpellier that should be consumed with a bucket of bivalves.

Our 100% Cabernet Franc, salmon-pink rosé hails from South Africa's Western Cape and would be a splendid match with mild Asian-spiced salads, sushi or crispy tofu with Szechuan pepper.

We are particularly tickled with our three reds, beginning with the delicious Château Fouquet from Saumur vineyards at Brezé. Like the rosé above, this vibrant red is pure Cabernet Franc and the back label now illustrates a holy trinity of healthy certification – organic, biodynamic and vegan!

The remaining two reds impressed our crack teams during recent buying trips and orders were placed on the spot. The red Bergerac is a juicy blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc – confit de canard or other Périgord poultry dishes would make perfect partners. Domaine Girard’s Burgundian-style Pinot Noir from the Languedoc hills owes its freshness to planting at 350m altitude, receiving cooling breezes from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean, making it ideal as an aperitif or a moreish partner to summer dishes.

This case also serves as our 'Sommelier Service' case – a subscription arrangement where customers get a delivery of six different wines (two bottles of each) every two months for £149. For further details of the service, see here for regular wine deliveries. As ever, this case is available as all red or all white & rosé.

This mixed case contains two bottles each of:

WHITE:
Chinon: Domaine Jean-Maurice Raffault Blanc 2019
Picpoul de Pinet: Domaine Gaujal 2021

ROSÉ:
Napier Winery: 'Petite Marie' Rosé 2020

RED:
Saumur: Domaine Filliatreau Château Fouquet Rouge 2019
Bergerac: Domaine l'Ancienne Cure 'Jour de Fruit' Rouge 2020
IGP Pays d'Oc: Domaine Girard Pinot Noir 2021

This mixed case includes

2 x Chinon: Domaine Jean-Maurice Raffault Blanc 2019£0.00

Only 2% of Chinon wines are white, so we would commend you to try such a rarity! Domaine Raffault's Chenin blanc is just the ticket so we shall eke out our allocation sparingly.

2 x Picpoul de Pinet: Domaine Gaujal 2021£0.00

This alluring and tangy Picpoul de Pinet wine is made just north of the Bassin de Thau, a large salt water lagoon near Montpellier in the Languedoc. It makes a bracing aperitif, but a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet and a bucket of oysters? Food and wine matching doesn't get much simpler or better than that.

2 x Napier Winery: 'Petite Marie' Rosé 2020£0.00

Delicate salmon-pink rosé wine from the vineyards of Wellington in the Western Cape of South Africa. Made from 100% Cabernet Franc, it has a floral nose with pink grapefruit, guava and rosehip notes that follow through onto the plate. Creamy and with a hint of Szechuan pepper spice, this is very moreish and ideal for alfresco imbibing!

2 x Saumur: Domaine Filliatreau Château Fouquet Rouge 2019£0.00

The Filliatreau family's red Saumur Château Fouquet that comes from organic vines just outside the Saumur Champigny appellation seems to be getting better with every vintage that we ship. It is a ripe rounded Cabernet Franc with some light minerally nuances that should be drunk within a couple of years, preferably al fresco with a plate of cheese or charcuterie!

Certified as a Vegan wine.

2 x Bergerac: Domaine l'Ancienne Cure 'Jour de Fruit' Rouge 2020£0.00

A bright 'Right-Bank' style red from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, from the Roche family's stable of excellent early-drinking 'Jour de Fruits' wines. Certified organic.

2 x IGP Pays d'Oc: Domaine Girard Pinot Noir 2021£0.00

Domaine Girard’s Burgundian-style Pinot Noir from the Languedoc hills owes its freshness to planting at 350m altitude, receiving cooling breezes from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Bags of intense berry fruit and gentle spice make this an ideal aperitif or moreish partner to summer dishes.
