Vouvray: Jean-Claude & Didier Aubert 'Sec' 2022

Bien classique! This refreshing, apple-scented Chenin Blanc will make a great aperitif or partner to goats cheese and salads. Vouvray Sec is the perfect wine to pair with locally-made potted pork rillettes, and together they make a dangerous combination as both are extremely more-ish.

Tasting Notes

A benchmark Chenin Blanc from this historic appellation, the refreshingly oak-free Vouvray Sec wine from Domaine Aubert has a classic Bramley apple bouquet and a lovely crisp clean orchard fruit palate, with a touch of residual sugar which adds a lovely honeyed-edge to its tangy fruit base. Drinking well now but, like most wines from Chenin Blanc, it will age gracefully.

"...dry Vouvray is brilliant with salmon fried till the skin is crispy." - Victoria Moore - The Telegraph.

Producer

Jean-Claude & Didier Aubert

The Aubert family started here in 1823 and, today, Jean-Claude and his son, Didier, produce equal proportions of still and sparkling Vouvray wines from 30 hectares of vines. The area is particularly favoured by a soil of volcanic limestone known as tuffa that not only provides the vines with excellent drainage but can be excavated to create ideal subterranean cellars for aging the wine. The Aubert cellars lie below 12 metres of rock.
