Recommendations from the Fourth Estate.

Wine Press
£179.00

We thought it would be helpful to highlight a few of our less obvious wines that have recently been praised in the Press...

This mixed case contains two bottles each of:

WHITE:
Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence: Domaine des Oullières Blanc 2020
"It is pure, elegant and refined. On the night when fish is on the menu this is your absolute go to wine."
Will Lyons.

heinhessen: Jürgen Hofmann Weisser Burgunder Trocken 2020
"Pale greenish straw. Firm and concentrated with a real backbone and no flab. Good drive."
Jancis Robinson OBE, MW - JancisRobinson.com

RED:
Lirac: Domaine Maby 'La Fermade' Rouge 2019
"Dark and smooth, 2019 Lirac La Fermade is from an acclaimed producer and centres itself around loganberry and red plum flavours with good acidity, attractive depth, balanced tannin and suggestions of incense, cinnamon and almost cola style sweet influences."
Brian Elliot - Midweek Wines.

Côtes du Roussillon: Domaine Ferrer-Ribière 'Cuvée Tradition' 2017
"Easy-drinking blend, conjuring up the warmth of the Roussillon countryside – a great introduction to the region."
Rosemary George MW - decanter.com

Jura Arbois: Poulsard Domaine Jean-Louis Tissot 2018
"Such a wine-bar wine... The acid is actually relatively low and the charm factor is high. Highly recommended as a novelty. GV (Good Value). Drink 2020 - 2023."
Jancis Robinson OBE, MW - JancisRobinson.com

Pfalz: Stefan Meyer 'Aus Rhodt' Pinot Noir 2018
"Meyer's unfiltered 2018 Pinot Noir Aus Rhodt opens with a seductive, in fact spectacular, fine and aromatic nose of dark fruits (cherries!) with beautiful floral and spicy/toasty aromas. This is an excellent Pinot Noir for a moderate price. 90 points."
Stephan Reinhardt - robertparker.com

This mixed case includes

2 x Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence: Domaine des Oullières Blanc 2020£0.00

A gorgeous white wine from Provence which has been particularly well received on these shores. Food and wine matching expert Fiona Beckett described it as "An intense, fragrant, Vermentino-based white to drink with seafood", and we heartily concur!

2 x Rheinhessen: Jürgen Hofmann Weisser Burgunder Trocken 2020£0.00

Great value 'estate-level' Pinot blanc (Weisser Burgunder) produced by the gifted Jürgen Hofmann, with pear aromas and a creamy finish.

2 x Lirac: Domaine Maby 'La Fermade' Rouge 2019£0.00

The red Lirac 'La Fermade' from Domaine Maby is an under-rated Châteauneuf'-style blend that is the quintessential fireside red wine. Made from Rhône staples Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, this warming red is packed with briary garrigue berry scents and flavours with a touch of violets, earthy undertones and rugged tannins. It too is a dependable crowd-pleaser offering more depth and complexity than most Côtes-du-Rhône without the price tag of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

2 x Côtes du Roussillon: Domaine Ferrer-Ribière 'Cuvée Tradition' 2017£0.00

The Côtes du Roussillon Cuvée Tradition from Domaine Ferrer-Ribière is a versatile, light-heavyweight wine with aromas of Autumnal fruit and a deep, core of cassis and kirsch.

2 x Jura Arbois: Poulsard Domaine Jean-Louis Tissot 2018£0.00

Do not make the mistake of under-estimating this light, ruby-coloured Jura red, which harbours aromas of red fruits and a spicy palate with some grip. It is the perfect wine partner to grilled trout or Morteau sausage with lentils.

2 x Pfalz: Stefan Meyer 'Aus Rhodt' Pinot Noir 2018£0.00

Stefan Meyer's 'Aus Rhodt' Pinot Noir is made from smaller-berried Dijon clones of Pinot Noir, giving lovely concentration of hedgerow berries and sumptuous black fruit palate with deftly-integrated oak and fresh acidity in true Burgundian style.
