Saint-Pourçain Wine

This year marks the 50th anniversary of our first shipment from the Union des Vignerons cave co-opérative in Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule. Such longevity is testament to the consistent quality of the Auvergnois wines and 'our', ergo 'your', appreciation of them. At a time of widespread inflation, these Saint-Pourçain wines certainly represent un bon rapport qualité-prix - moreover, they are made to drink well from release which is appreciated by the impatient amongst us.

Their white wine 'La Printanière' is made from a blend of Chardonnay and the local curio Trésallier and has uplifting wildflower scents and a whistle-clean, citrus-edged palate with a zesty, dry finish. A rosé sibling 'Domaine de Chinière' is made from pure Gamay and is redolent of summer berries offset by fresh acidity. Completing the range is a Gamay and Pinot Noir blend called 'La Ficelle' named after the knotted string barkeepers would deploy to measure your evening's consumption by dipping it into the serving jug. Each year the bottle carries a comedic etching by a different French cartoonist and it is a self-proclaimed vin de soif. It is best served lightly-chilled and has a cranberry and redcurrant bouquet followed by a supple palate of wild strawberries and raspberries supported by delicate tannins.
