Deep ruby in colour with herb and spice aromas. The full-bodied palate of dark berry fruits is complimented by nicely rounded tannins.
Mourvèdre is the definitive grape in Bandol as it flourishes here, assisted by a long ripening season, cooling sea breezes and a sandy soil. This capricious variety is capable of producing world class red wines, such as the Mas de la Rouvière Rouge.Made from a base of 55% Mourvèdre along with 20% each of Grenache and Cinsault and 5%of Syrah this dense, life-affirming wine has a beguiling bouquet of herbs and hedgerow fruit and a fine concentration of dark plum and damson flavours over finegrained tannins. It comes into its own with about 3 years bottle-age (but will keep for a decade or more) and is ideally suited to grilled meat dishes.
