Yapp Brothers is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in its 55-year history. Established in 1969, the company will shortly be moving to new premises after five decades in Wiltshire.

Yapp van & boxes

For half a century, Yapp Brothers has called Mere its home, initially operating out of Robin Yapp’s garage before moving to picturesque Victorian warehouses in the town centre in 1972. The company has outgrown these cellars and is therefore poised to move 15 miles west to exciting, modern premises in Sparkford, Somerset.

The new site, located at West 303, Sparkford, Somerset, BA22 7JJ (minutes off the A303), represents not just a physical change but a symbol of Yapp’s evolution in a rapidly evolving industry. These contemporary wine cellars, which will treble the company’s storage capacity, have been designed to enhance the productivity, efficiency and sustainability of Yapp Brothers for decades to come.

CEO, Tom Ashworth, expressed excitement about this move, saying, "After 53 remarkable years at our much-loved Old Brewery site, this relocation marks a significant chapter in the Yapp story. We are thrilled to embrace new opportunities, provide an improved working environment for our team, and deliver a broader range of wines and services to our customers at competitive prices."

Yapp Brothers expects its operations will transition smoothly to Sparkford during May 2024.

Here are some FAQs we have considered, but if you have other questions, please email us.

When will we move?
We don't have a precise date yet, as there is a ton of work going on to get Sparkford ready, but May 2024 is our projected month for the switch.

Will the Mere site close?
Yes, but we will give plenty of notice of when the shop closes. It's likely we will have some kind of closing and bin end sale in the early Summer.

Will your opening hours remain the same in Sparkford?
Yes, we will continue to open 9.00AM to 5.00PM, Monday to Saturday. You will still be able to drop in to buy individual bottles and seek wine advice in the new premises.

What happens to my wine in storage with you?
We will carefully move any customers' wine that we have in storage to our new air-conditioned storage in Sparkford.

Can you tell us anything about the new site?
It is two minutes off the Hazelgrove roundabout on the A303 (and A359), around 15 minutes west of Mere. Our new premises are on the High Street in Sparkford, opposite the Sparkford Inn. They were formerly the printworks of Haynes Motor Manuals.
