Côtes du Roussillon: Les Sorcières du Clos des Fées Rouge 2022
Based near Vingrau at high altitude around the northern edge of Roussillon, former sommelier Hervé Bizeul has become one of the region's undoubted stars over the past two decades. Acclaimed as 'one of the top 2 to 3 estates in the Roussillon' by Jeb Dunnuck (robertparker.com), his 'Sorcières red' - a blend of 50% racy young-vine Syrah, rounded out by 35% Grenache Noir, 5% young-vine Mourvèdre and 10% Carignan from limestone-clay plots between 40 to 80 years old - is a highly drinkable fruit-forward expression of this great terroir.

|Vinification||Hand-harvested grapes using triage undergo a pre-fermentation cold maceration in 128 hectolitres stainless steel tanks with daily pumping-over. Temperature-controlled maceration takes between 15 and 21 days to obtain a soft extraction with daily pumping over. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation prior to ageing for 8 months on fine lees in tank. Minimal quantities of SO2 are added during ageing and the wine is lightly filtered before bottling.|

In 1981, while in his early twenties, Hervé Bizeul was acclaimed the Best Young Sommelier in France. In 1998, after a spell in journalism, Hervé transferred his skills and attention to a small parcel of abandoned vines in a corner of the Roussillon that he felt had great potential.
Despite vinifying his first vintage at the back of a friend's cellar, the domaine has gone from strength to strength and two decades later is revered throughout France.
