Tasting Notes

As opposed to the Chave's Domaine Hermitage, which is exclusively sourced from their own vineyards, the 'Farconnet' (named after a lord who sold the Chave family their first parcel of Hermitage) includes Syrah grapes that Jean-Louis buys in from other lieux-dits - Les Diognières, Les Greffieux, and little Péléat.

Jean-Louis Chave Sélection

The 1995 vintage was the first vintage Jean-Louis produced under his 'négociant' label 'Sélection'. Purchasing Syrah grapes from good friends in Saint-Joseph, it formed the basis for a range that includes a red and white St Joseph named 'Offerus' and 'Circa respectively, a Crozes-Hermitage ''Silène'', 'Mon Coeur' Côtes-du-Rhône and a Hermitage Rouge 'Farconnet' and 'Blanche'. At the same time, the Chave family began restoring derelict vineyards in Saint-Joseph, the fruit from which now forms the basis of several of these wines. The 'Sélection' wines receive as much care and attention as the Domaine wines and their quality shows Jean-Louis' commitment to the region and drive for accessibility at keen prices.
