Lirac: Domaine Maby 'La Fermade' Rouge 2016
"Already bottled, the 2016 Lirac La Fermade (54% Grenache, 24% Mourvèdre, and the balance Syrah) is medium to full-bodied, concentrated and textured, with the fruit forward, sexy fruit profile of this terrific vintage. Leafy herbs, lavender, blueberries and a kiss of graphite all emerge from the glass and it has sweet tannin and outstanding length. It too should keep through 2026, although there's no need to delay gratification. 91/100."

Made from Rhône staples Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, this warming red is packed with briary garrigue berry scents and flavours with earthy undertones and rugged tannins. It too is a dependable crowd-pleaser offering more depth and complexity than most Côtes-du-Rhône without the price tag of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

At Domaine Maby, third generation Rhône winemaker Richard Maby has injected fresh impetus to the family’s 60 hectare estate since relinquishing his job at the Paris Bourse in 2005 and returning to the vineyards of his home. The Maby family and Domaine have a long history of wine-making in Lirac and Tavel, and Richard’s grandfather, Armand, was the Mayor of Tavel. Now making wine under 4 appellations, Lirac, Tavel, Côtes du Rhône and the Coteaux de Cèze, Domaine Maby farm using sustainable agriculture principles to promote biodiversity and reduce CO2 emissions. This was recognized when Richard was named one of the Winemakers of the Year in the 2021 Guide Hachette des Vins.

One Minute Review - Lirac: Domaine Maby La Fermade Rouge
Meirion Williams reviews the red Lirac 'La Fermade' from Domaine Maby - a pure clarity of fruit, blackberry and hedgerow aromas, with a freshness and a bit of pepper. A structured robust red to serve with steak or spicy sausages.Yapp Brothers Videos
