Tasting Notes

This Savoie wine is an old vine bottling from the Jacquère grape - 'L'Idylle' has more weight and structure than its 'Jacquère' sibling as a fifth is matured in oak barrels, but much the same zesty, mineral appeal. Philippe and François Tiollier concur with conviction that small shellfish and line-caught lake trout, or poultry dishes would partner nicely. Tartiflette, raclettes or fondue, particularly featuring local cheeses Reblochon, Raclette, Tomme de Savoie or Beaufort would be fine accompaniments.

Vinification Old vine fruit is hand-harvested and de-stalked and then vinified in modern stainless steel vats. Full-malolactic fermentation takes place & the wine is raised on its fine lees with 20% in used oak barrels.

Savoie is an ancient and isolated vine area which deploys idiosyncratic grape varieties (originally introduced by monks from Chartreuse) that are seldom encountered elsewhere – Jacquére and Roussette for white wines and Mondeuse for reds. The Tiollier family has nurtured vines in and around the village of Cruet on the steep slopes of the Isère valley for generations. Situated in the Regional Nature Reserve of the Massif des Baugeas, Philippe and François's vines are spread over 47 acres of prime terroir and their fastidious approach to winemaking has turned Domaine de l'Idylle into a self-sustaining viticultural enterprise. Overgrown and abandoned parcels of vines have been carefully cleared and replanted and state of the art equipment has been installed in the ancient cellars.
