Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil marks the western extremity of Touraine and is essentially a satellite appellation of Bourgueil itself - it is home to far fewer growers but is still a source of some excellent wine, producing supple, medium-bodied red wines from the Cabernet Franc grape.
Thierry Foltzenlogel was the business partner and son-in-law of the late Joël Taluau, a traditional but gifted wine-maker who taught him the tricks of the trade over decades working together. The Foltzenogel-Taluau wines are always carefully crafted within the context of their vintage and exemplify what can be achieved with Cabernet Franc. The violet scented Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgeuil is readily accessible from release with bright red fruit characteristics and delicate tannins. It is perfect for picnics and kitchen table lunches of charcuterie and salad.
