Vacqueyras Wine

Vacqueyras Wine

Similar to its Cru sibling Gigondas to the north-east, Vacqueyras is known for producing bold yet approachable Southern Rhône blends founded on Grenache Noir which reward more immediate imbibing, often having a more fruity character. Located in the shadow of 'Les Dentelles de Montmirail' granite cliffs below Vacqueyras, Yvès Chéron is a successful négociant-vinificateur using bought-in grapes for his popular 'Pascal Frères' wines and bottling his own fruit from Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise under his 'Grand Montmirail' label. Made from a blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, the 'Pascal Frères' Vacqueyras is eminently enjoyable from bottling and has a rich, plummy fruit palate with spicy undertones. The Vacqueyras 'Grand Montmirail' version is made from 65% Grenache Noir and 35% Syrah and is a little fuller and long-lived and merits decanting.
