Vacqueyras Wine

Vacqueyras Wine

Similar to its Cru sibling Gigondas to the north-east, Vacqueyras is known for producing bold yet approachable Southern Rhône blends founded on Grenache Noir which reward more immediate imbibing, often having a more fruity character.

Located in the shadow of 'Les Dentelles de Montmirail' granite cliffs below Vacqueyras, Yves Cheron's 'Grand Montmirail' vignoble produces some excellent estate bottlings but he also makes some great value négociant wines under his popular 'Pascal Frères' label. These are commendably left to accrue some bottle age before they are released and are subsequently accessible from the off with a lovely integration between their garrigue berry fruit and peppery tannins. Yves' own 'Grand Montmirail' wines from plots here and in nearby Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise are more structured, angular and age-worthy and cellar well for 5-10 years.
