Bien Classique

Impeccable bottles from Burgundy, the Rhône and Bordeaux.

Bien Classique Mixed Case Offer
£475.00

A first-class line-up from top-drawer estates that covers white and red Burgundy, the northern and southern Rhône, left- and right-bank Bordeaux. The reds come with the benefit of some medium-term ageing, although all will happily cellar for (at least) a further 5 years.

This mixed case contains two bottles each of:

WHITE:
Condrieu: Domaine Georges Vernay 'Les Terrasses de l'Empire' 2018
"Medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless, it has terrific purity (especially given the heat in the vintage) as well as lots of white flower, salted citrus, tangerine, and a kiss of rocky minerality. Nicely concentrated as well as balanced, this brilliant wine is not far off the two pricier releases. 94/100."

Chablis: Domaine Christophe Camu 'Beauroy' Premier Cru 2018

RED:
Châteauneuf du Pape: Le Vieux Donjon Rouge 2015
"The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is a floral, violet-scented wine that's supple and ripe. Only medium to full-bodied, it showcases complex garrigue and licorice notes rather than oodles of red fruit and comes to a long, silky finish. 93/100."
Joe Czerwinski - The Wine Advocate.

Beaune: Domaine François Gay & Fils 1er Cru 'Les Teurons' 2013
Pomerol: Château Gombaude-Guillot 2014
"This delivers a long, lush stream of pure raspberry ganache flavors, flecked with anise and fruitcake notes, all gliding through a silky, suave finish. What you see is what you get, and it's pretty tasty. Drink now through 2026. 1,500 cases made. 90/100."
James Molesworth - Wine Spectator.

Haut-Médoc: Château Cantemerle 2012
"Bright red ruby with purple tinges. Sexy, floral aromas of raspberry, pepper, licorice and spices are vibrant and precise. Juicy, intense and very smooth, with wonderful energy and precision to the flavors of blackberry, licorice and spices. Very nicely balanced, persistent wine with fine tannins and very good grip - and no green or harsh edges. This excellent wine gets my nod for Haut-Medoc of the vintage in 2012. In fact, I was so smitten that I went out of my way to taste it three different times, just to be sure. 87-90/100."

This mixed case includes

2 x Condrieu: Domaine Georges Vernay 'Les Terrasses de l'Empire' 2018£0.00

"The 2018 Condrieu Les Terrasses de L'Empire has a portion brought up in oak, all being used, and it's always a great introduction into the wines of this estate. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless, it has terrific purity (especially given the heat in the vintage) as well as lots of white flower, salted citrus, tangerine, and a kiss of rocky minerality. Nicely concentrated as well as balanced, this brilliant wine is not far off the two pricier releases.
Drink 2020-2030. 94/100."

2 x Chablis: Domaine Christophe Camu 'Beauroy' Premier Cru 2018£0.00

Ratcheting up a gear in rank (and, bien sur, price) from the generic Chablis is Christophe's 'Premier Cru' bottling from the south-facing Beauroy vineyard. A concentrated, expressive Chablis that will stand up well to fish or poultry in creamy sauces and will cellar for a decade.

2 x Châteauneuf du Pape: Le Vieux Donjon Rouge 2015£0.00

"I loved the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape from Claire Michel and it's a classic blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, mostly from rolled stone terroirs, that was partially destemmed and brought up all in foudre. It's a downright sexy, voluptuous 2015 offering textbook notes of kirsch liqueur, ground pepper, herbes de Provence, and incense. It picks up more dark fruit with time in the glass, is full-bodied, has plenty of fat and glycerin, and ample tannin, although they're so polished you have to hunt for them. This gorgeous example of traditionally made Châteauneuf du Pape that's going to drink beautifully for 15+ years. 95/100."

2 x Beaune: Domaine François Gay & Fils 1er Cru 'Les Teurons' 2013£0.00

This classic, muscular Pinot Noir requires 3-5+ years cellaring before starting to reveal its potential, and now has a loyal following amongst our customers. 'Les Teurons' is one of the 42 Premier Cru vineyards (there are no Grand Crus in Beaune) that sits plum in the middle of this 400+ hectare appellation, just outside the iconic home of the Burgundy wine trade.

2 x Pomerol: Château Gombaude-Guillot 2014£0.00

"This delivers a long, lush stream of pure raspberry ganache flavors, flecked with anise and fruitcake notes, all gliding through a silky, suave finish. What you see is what you get, and it's pretty tasty. Drink now through 2026. 1,500 cases made. Score: 90."
James Molesworth - Wine Spectator.

2 x Haut-Médoc: Château Cantemerle 2012£0.00

A classy Cabernet-Sauvignon-based claret from the classed 5th growth Château Cantemerle in the readily-approachable 2012 vintage. Produced from mature rootstock on well-drained gravelly soil, its cassis and cedar aromas and flavours are eminently enjoyable now (with decanting) and it has the stuffing to age well for a further 3-5+ years.
