Regular rainfall, cooling sea breezes and ample sunshine all help grapes to achieve optimum maturity. This six-pack features 'coastal wines', where the maritime climate regulates and influences the vineyards. In conjunction with the case, listen to Jason Yapp discuss (and taste) each wine in our 'Adventures in Wine' podcast.

A suitable place to start is in the Western Loire, where Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine benefits from its proximity to the Atlantic. The wine is dry and zesty and makes for an uplifting aperitif or partner to seafood, particularly shellfish. Next, a South African Sauvignon Blanc that enjoys an elevated position in the hills of Darling and more cooling Atlantic weather. Here the fruit is tropical, but the finish is still dry and invigorating.

Our third wine evokes Mediterranean sunshine. It's a beautiful, organic, coral pink rosé from coastal vines at La Ciotat in Provence, redolent of red summer berries with nervy mineral undertones.

Our first of two reds is from Lussac Saint-Émilion – an AOC that benefits from oceanic influences carried in from the Gironde estuary. The harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is grown on free-draining alluvial soils and has a wealth of brooding black fruit supported by supple tannins. A briary, full-bodied red from the hills above the Provencal port of Bandol showcases the Mourvèdre grape; aided by plentiful sunshine and sandy soil, this Mas de la Rouvière blends offers peppery notes and good tannic grip.

Lastly, from the Cap Corse peninsula comes a gently-honeyed Muscat with a sensuous stone fruit palate.

This six-bottle mixed case contains one bottle each of:

Côtes de Provence: Clos Sainte Magdeleine Rosé 2022

RED:
Lussac-Saint-Émilion: Château Milonblanc 2020
Bandol: Mas de la Rouvière Rouge 2019

SWEET WHITE:

This mixed case includes

1 x Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie: Jean-François Baron 2022£0.00

There's Muscadet, and then there's Muscadet. This zesty, palate-tingling wine - which is both 'de Sèvre et Maine' and 'Sur Lie' - is bone dry, makes a bracing aperitif, and goes down a treat with oysters, mussels and other 'fruits de mer'.

1 x Napier Winery: 'Klein Louis' Sauvignon Blanc 2022£0.00

‘Klein Louis’ Sauvignon Blanc follows its rosé sibling ‘Petite Marie’ as an excellent value wine from Napier Vineyards. Made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, it’s sourced from the cool-climate vineyards of Darling, on the Cape Atlantic coast. Brimming with tangy green apple, nettle and grassy gooseberry aromas and flavours accentuated by zingy grapefruit acidity.

1 x Côtes de Provence: Clos Sainte Magdeleine Rosé 2022£0.00

Bright salmon-pink rosé wine, with characteristic aromas of red berry fruit underscored by saline minerality, a touch of stone fruit, good acidity and a smooth finish. A touch of tannin balances the acidity making it a perfect match for Provençale dishes like pissaladière or pistou. It also complements fish or artichoke dishes very well.

1 x Lussac-Saint-Émilion: Château Milonblanc 2020£0.00

A delightful mid-weight Claret from Lussac-Saint-Émilion, an up-and-coming satellite appellation that delivers terrific value for money. The d'Anglade family of Libourne have been making wine for over 2 centuries, and their claret from Château Milonblanc is a step up from their ever-popular Bordeaux Superior Château d'Abzac.

1 x Bandol: Mas de la Rouvière Rouge 2019£0.00

A full-bodied Bandol red wine from the Côte d'Azur, with a beguiling, deep purple robe, dark, hedgerow berry scents and a palate of black fruit, spices, dried ceps and game.

1 x Muscat du Cap Corse: Domaine Pieretti 2021£0.00

This Muscat wine is an orange blossom-scented, golden-hued nectar from Corsica. With a palate of sweet, ripe apricots it is traditionally enjoyed chilled in situ as a pre-prandial sharpener, but works equally well as partner to fruit-based desserts.
